Methadone $: 0
Most of the drugs that used in psychotropic drug rehabilitation work by providing the body with decreasing concentration over a long period of time ultimately reaching a point of zero concentration. Methadone, on the other hand, works in a slightly different manner. Methadone acts as a mind-altering drug that offers the patient freedom from active addiction. Now, that's one unique way of action!

What Methadone does is fill the endorphine receptor in our brain which blocks the craveing for opiates

Which makes this a disease and not a matter of will power. Patients will often spread stigma, not because the medication worked fine, but due to the way they were treated while in a broken system. Things got a little better after the new fed regs were passed and patients were starting to be treated like a real patient...in your better programs and Yes they do exist. However some folks with a twisted way of thinking are attacking the very ground we stand on. Patients voices were finally being heard and treatment was getting better. Then someone makes a movie another twisted look at patients and all over the States benzo's are now taboo....What happened to "One Size does Not Fit All" treatment? Thats stigma and how fast it progress's in the methadone community. Clinic reg's were changed for all the wrong reasons. Now our very freedom of not having to attend a clinic on a daily basis is being challenged by those who have no understanding of what this disease is all about.
Hopefully Forums such as this and We Speak Methadone will continue to educate patients and future patients. I hate to think of someone whose life could of been saved with one of the medications for opioid dependence not go get it due to stigma and end up dead.

Just a thought from LP
