I read some book a long time ago dad told me about (over 20 yrs ago) about Paper money being worth little to nothing in really hard times but items like boots, ammo, cigarettes, Liquor, food, gold, silver and drugs will always be valuable items, especially in hard times

Hope it doesn't come down to that but from what I've read and the way history has been, it seems like when things really get bad in the U.S there's a big war right around the corner. Who knows what a big war these days will bring (total destruction?) but in the past it's been jobs -(Rosie the Riveter for example) . Whether war would really put everyone to work and build the economy back, I don't know and hope we don't have to find out.

Scared? I keep visioning old photos from the great depression of folks standing in line for food and all sorts of hand me outs of some sort in the winter, The majority of people jobless, People standing in line, hoping for a loaf of bread...With the U.S in so much debt and losing money&Jobs&banks&large Companies at the current rate, I just can't see how we could get cought back up with the current way of living and without some major event happening to turn things around.

Spending habits- I think a lot harder about getting extras or spending on items I can do without but stiil manage to spend it :D ..

Strange how when the groceries and everything went up up up over the summer they blamed it all on gas prices but now that gas has went down the groceries and stuff stay high as ever.

Those lines you were describing with folks in a food line waiting for a loaf of bread? Have you checked out the homeless Shelter lately ? Some of those folks work a job,but can not afford to eat and pay for a roof over their head. I was homeless for a long time ...I couch surfed, floor surfed, extra room surfed for many years of my life. However I was usually strung out and running hard. Even when I got back on methadone I still lived nomadic for many years. I finally got a place for me and my Ms markie who I got about a month after Mark took his life<aug 91> we lived in what usd to be the office in a slum lord cottage waiting for my housing help to come thru. It was really weird when I 1st got indoors too. My front door had a window in it and I would catch myself standing at the door and looking down each way like I was looking for Pill Call or something. Things got better when I got my housing help and since then I have been able to build my credit etc and I'm 56 yrs old...:) Anyhow Take a good look around as those lines have been happening for over a decade now.

Good Subject. What scares me is what the future will bring us. I mean look how quickly gas went down as soon as Obama was elected? Makes ya think eh?

Take care and thanks for all your help, but I think I'll havee to use a different computer to logon as me again...

Hi LP :D

Actually am sitting next to one of those lines every week and as tough as it is for those folks it always makes me remember how much I have with shelter, food & Heat when it's cold. And Cold is what it's been at night time here, 18° F last night so the shelters are crowded.

Here's a link to a time line, You can see some of the events that took place during the depression years. I don't have any association with the site and don't have time to validate everything, but here it is. Looks like years 1931 - 1932 are hauntingly familiar in a few aspects! Banks collaps - New president elected - Banks close, banks bailed out http://www.amatecon.com/gd/gdtimeline.html

Everybody Smile :D
